Wim Ilsen lead violin

Born in Belgium, Wim started his violin studies in the Conservatory for Music, Drama and Dance in his native city Hasselt.

With the help of several scholarships (Robus, Rotary International, STROOM cultural grants and the Swiss Confederation) he was able to continue his studies in Belgium and in Switzerland with the renowned pedagogues, Liviu Prunaru, Henry Raudales, Pierre Amoyal and Naaman Sluchin.

In 2008 Wim was awarded with a Forte music award for his duo-playing with the pianist Anna Gasparova. The duo was also awarded public's favourite performance.

He has attended numerous masterclasses in Belgium and abroad with masters including Ivry Gitlis, Alberto Lysy, Liviu Prunaru, Ruggiero Ricci and Bogdan Zvoristeanu.

Wim has gained extensive chamber music experience and has been invited regularly to play in many different formations ranging from piano-violin duos to chamber orchestras.

He has been playing concerts all over Europe as an orchestral musician, chamber musician, concertmaster and soloist.

In 2012 he started joining the young talented musicians who now form the Young European String Camerata.
